The idea of a personal carbon footprint was popularized by a large advertising campaign of the fossil fuel company BP in 2005. This piece of propaganda was designed to shift the responsibility of carbon emissions from the company to the public. 📝 Erratum: @3:30 the vertical axis of the graph should read "CO2 concentration" not temperatures, and the voice-over should say "CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is the highest it has ever been in 400,000." Temperature will follow but fortunately, they are not there yet.
